The former Pioneer Kaserne and Housing in Hanau was once the home and base for many hundreds of American soldiers.
It was a time when the whole area was like little America in the middle of Germany. People loved the American lifestyle and the feeling of being surrounded by their American friends.
In 2008 the last soldiers left Hanau and since then the Pioneer Kaserne is deserted and the nature takes over everything.
The photos below are impressions from outside the fence, taken with my iPhone.

These photos bring back such vivid memories. Pioneer Kasern was my first duty station, and my first time out of the U.S. I met and married my husband there. I partied like never before, and this is where I learned to hold my liquor and turn a wrench as a mechanic. Thank you for the photos.

I'm wanting to know if anyone remembers any contacts from the American Legion in Hanau approx. 1969-1971. It was run by two Americans and they had two Australian waitresses for some of that time. If anyone has any info. As am going to Hanau in a few months time.
Any help would be appreciated .... Cheers ....

My name is John Perez,my tour of duty was with the 589th Engineers Supply Co. in 1956-59. We were stationed in Pioneer Kaserne,Hanau,Germany. MY first time away from the states. I really enjoyed my time in Germany and with my unit.My main M.O.S. was with driving heavy trucks. My friends were Tom Bryant, and Joe Gonzales from Gary,Ind,Lowell Jackson,Vernice Stalbaumer,Hon P. Moy from N.Y, and a 16 yr young kid from Indie,IND. Dennis Hemphill. Remembering how wild he was being away from home,he is probably dead by now. Hope not.!!! My first wife was from the district of Wolfgang,Nurvishaus,Germany. We are now not together any more.My first son was born there while we were married. MY present wife and I are married going on 41yrs and happy. My last year at Pioneer,I made the post Baseball Team, playing shortstop. Once in awhile my mind will take me back to those days being in the Pioneer Kaserne,Hanau,Germany 1956-1959. LOVED IT.
