Nadine Elfenbein shoots Rick Genest aka Rico the Zombie

German photographer NADINE ELFENBEIN recently did a photo shoot with Rick Genest.

Ever since Rick Genest aka Rico the Zombie graced Lady Gaga’s music video for “Born This Way”, he has been an idol of international runway and advertising campaigns. During the photoshoot, an intense video portrait directed by NADINE ELFENBEIN came into being, revealing why Rick Genest wears a tattoo of his own skeleton across his entire body.

Two Way Lens and Chris Anthony

Two Way Lens proudly presents Chris Anthony

I am very happy that another interview has been added to my project Two Way Lens.

Chris Anthony is a Swedish Photographer and Artist, currently based in Los Angeles.

When I saw his Venice series for the first time, I was fascinated by the quality and beauty of the photographs. Chris puts his characters in very well chosen costumes and photographs them standing and posing in the water, mostly with cloudy sky. The results are wonderful, surreal photographs, striking and captivating.

He has also directed many commercials for big companies and music videos for bands such as The Dandy Warhols. Chris' work has been exhibited internationally and has won many awards.

The Tutu Project by Bob Carey

About nine years ago Photographer Bob Carey and his wife, Linda moved to America's East Coast. Even though the move was exciting, exhilarating, and inspiring, it was a big and dramatic change. The self portraits were a perfect way of expressing himself. He posed in different surroundings wearing a pink tutu.

The result is a wonderful, inspiring and poetic series of self portraits: The Tutu Project.

There is also a serious story behind this beautiful project.

Six months after the move, Linda his wife, was diagnosed with breast cancer. She beat it, only to have it recur in 2006. During these past nine years, he's been in awe of her power, her beauty, and her spirit. Bob says; oddly enough, her cancer has taught us that life is good, dealing with it can be hard, and sometimes the very best thing—no, the only thing—we can do to face another day is to laugh at ourselves, and share a laugh with others.

Ballerina, the book. Not only is it a collection of his tutu images, it also shares many humorous stories about the adventures of a guy and his pink tulle.

This autumn, Bob will self-publish the book Ballerina. The net proceeds from the sale of the book will go directly to breast cancer organizations, including Cancercare.org and the Beth Israel Department of Integrative Medicine Fund, that make significant differences in the lives of women with breast cancer and in the people who love them.

Bob's project can be supported in many ways, by purchasing a special edition 20-by-24-inch signed tutu print, by purchasing a T-shirt, pre-purchasing a signed copy of Ballerina or other options noted on his project site.

Creative Collaboration by Jane Fulton Alt

Jane Fulton Alt had a wonderful idea. One of her images could be requested to work with. She let the photographers do whatever they wanted to do with the file, crop, manipulate, change or interpret in ways only the imagination set the limit.

What came out is a fascinating collection of an image remixed and seen in such a wide variety.

Stefan Heyne

Stefan Heyne's new book Speak To Me juts got released by publisher Hatje Cantz.

The book features Stefan's most recent works. The photographs are more radical and abstract than the ones presented in his first book.

Stefan's work is like a meditation, beautiful, silent, minimalistic and painted with light. Looking at his photographs calms you down and gives a sense of peacefulness.

The Magic of Emptiness

To this day, German photography remains influenced by the New Objectivity of the Becher School and its representatives, such as Andreas Gursky, Candida Höfer, Thomas Ruff, and Jörg Sasse. In an attempt to oppose the classic aspects of the photographic image—sharpness and recognizability—Stefan Heyne (*1965 in Brandenburg an der Havel) leaves the objects in his pictures in a state of uncertainty, resisting the usual observational parameters. Things appear sketchily in the light, only to disappear again in the surrounding shadows. This publication features Heyne’s most recent works, the most radical abstracts in his oeuvre so far, which show photography in a manner commensurate with its etymology—as “painting with light,” liberated from the belief that reality can be objectively reproduced—an idea long inscribed in the medium, which still adheres to Enlightenment concepts.

Passengers

Passengers is a street photography book, focused on anonymous passengers on public transport.

Four photographers who share their love for street photography made a wonderful book about this subject.

Day by day millions of people are using public transport to go from one place to another. Very often it is so packed that they can hardly move and keeping at least some kind of private space is many times only possible by putting headphones on, trying to read a book or magazine or just staring in the air.

The photographs in this book portrait this situation with respect and intimacy.

The photographers are: Marcelo Aurelio, Godo Chillida, Benjamin Julve and Fran Simó.

Fat by Eric Tabuchi

Eric Tabuchi's new book Fat - A French American Trip got just published by Matmos Press, an independent publisher based in Montréal (QC). Matmos Press produces, prints and distributes artist books focused on photography, art, and contemporary design practice.

Pursuing his pop and serial studies of the French landscape, Eric Tabuchi questions the validity of his photographic method in contrast to the considerable power wielded by the likes of Google, which, via his global digitization company, is at last carrying out a project that is genuinely objective. Thus, contrary to his habitual method of scanning the field, Eric Tabuchi has undertaken the exploration of familiar places, but through this parallel world, the carbon copy of reality that is Street View.Consequently, FAT creates a strain between these two levels of perception, which are henceforth known to all as the virtual and the real, the space of projection and the concrete territory. Two Way Lens and Ruben Natal-San Miguel

Two Way Lens proudly presents Ruben Natal-San Miguel.

I am very happy and excited that I can bring Two Way Lens to another level. The New York based photographer Ruben Natal-San Miguel is the first one who starts with my new questions.

Since I brought Two Way Lens to life in June 2008 the main focus lay on aspects like finding audiences and other ways of promoting work.

With the new questions I want to focus more on professional practice, such as process of editing, planning and inspiration.

I hope you will benefit from the new direction and the contributions that follow.

Ruben Natal-San Miguel is an architect, photographer, curator, writer, art collector and consultant who specialize primarily in the art of fine emerging photography. He holds a Bachelor and Master Degree in Architecture from Boston Architectural College and Finance and Business Administration from Boston University.

For the past eight years during the summer months, Ruben has traveled by bicycle throughout Upper Manhattan camera in hand in search of what is like to live in NYC areas that, till most recently and for many prior many decades, had been ignored by the government and most of society. This is not the “Sex and The City” Manhattan that most people clamor and aim for. Ruben has been able to find, not only a vibrant and colorful vision of that other Manhattan but, also a happy, endearing and very meaningful life lesson of what is like when the human spirit and communities make the best of others may considered to be so little.

His photography work has been in local, national and international exhibitions galleries and art fairs and published by magazines such as The Atlantic magazine. His curated shows had been featured in The New Yorker and French Photo among many others. Ruben's work is represented by Finch & Ada, New York.

He is also the founder and Editor in Chief of Artmostfierce, one of the most influential blogs about fine-art photography. A must read for everyone interested in contemporary photography.
