Postcards from the Edge 2011

Hosted by CRG Gallery, 548 West 22nd Street, NYC
January 7 - 9, 2011

Postcards from the Edge is a Visual AIDS benefit show and sale of original, postcard-sized works on paper by established and emerging artists. All works are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

The works are signed on the back and exhibited so the artists' signatures cannot be seen. While buyers receive a list of all participating artists, they don't know who created which piece until purchased.

All proceeds support the programs of Visual AIDS.

Visual AIDS utilizes art to fight AIDS by provoking dialogue, supporting HIV+ artists, and preserving the legacy -- because AIDS IS NOT OVER!

For more information please visit Visual AIDS Postcards from the Edge Website.

But better go to the auction and support Visual AIDS and purchase your work of art. It could be from John Baldessari, Ross Bleckner, Louise Fishman, Ann Hamilton, Mary Heilmann, Jeff Koons, Glenn Ligon, Marilyn Minter, Yoko Ono, David Reed or John Waters

Arturo Soto

Arturo Soto is a photographer based in Mexico Ciy. He studied at the School of Visual Arts New York and earned his MFA in Photography, Video and Related Media in 2008.

I was drawn to his series The Rain has stopped... which to me has the classic approach to street photography we know from the old masters.

There are many more different series on his website, so please make sure to visit it and see more of his beautiful work.

All images below are from Arturo Soto's series The Rain has stopped.....

Good Night America

This is so cool! I received a message from someone who lived in Hanau for a few years. To be more precise, he lived in the American Housing Area in Hanau which is a big and important part of my series Good Night America. Hanau used to have a huge population of American soldiers. They had all their facilities with barracks, housing, schools, supermarkets, cinemas, restaurants and much more. The Germans loved being surrounded by American people and getting a taste of the lifestyle they only knew from the TV. It was a great time with block parties, loud music coming out of the cars, and seeing them carrying brown paper bags from their supermarket shopping.

Guys we miss you!!!!

But back to the story, the one who lived here found images from my series on this blog and wrote a comment. he lives now in NY and is 28 years old.

I was happy to receive this comment and that my images found their way to someone who is familiar with all the things they show.

Thanks J.
